Posted 1 week ago
A Store Incharge in a metallurgy company specializing in nickel alloys plays a critical role in managing high-value, specialized materials. They oversee inventory control, safe handling, and documentation for expensive raw materials (like nickel, chromium, and molybdenum) and finished goods (such as pipes, sheets, and bars).
Job Title: Store Incharge – Metallurgy
The Store Incharge is responsible for the end-to-end management of the warehouse and storage facilities. This includes receiving, inspecting, storing, and issuing specialized nickel alloy raw materials, consumables, and finished products. The role ensures zero inventory variance, strict safety compliance, and seamless material supply to the production floor.
Inventory & Material Management
- Material Receipts: Oversee the incoming receipt of nickel alloy scrap, ingots, plates, sheets, tubes, and rods.
- Verification: Check physical shipments against purchase orders, commercial invoices, and Mill Test Certificates (MTC) to ensure correct grades (e.g., Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy).
- Material Issuance: Issue raw materials and tooling to the production department based on verified Material Requisition Notes (MRN).
- Stock Audits: Conduct regular physical stock verification and cycle counting to maintain 100% inventory accuracy.
Storage & Safety Compliance
- Scrap Segregation: Implement strict segregation protocols for different grades of nickel alloy scrap to prevent cross-contamination.
- Traceability: Maintain heat number and batch traceability from the raw material stage to the finished product.
- Safety & Handling: Enforce safe handling and lifting practices for heavy metal loads using cranes and forklifts.
Documentation & ERP Systems
- System Updates: Log all material movements (receipts, issues, returns) in the ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or customized inventory software) daily.
- Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of Material Test Certificates, goods receipt notes (GRN), and rejection reports.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Supply Chain Management, Material Management, or a Diploma in Mechanical/Metallurgical Engineering.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of warehousing experience, specifically within steel plants, metallurgy units, foundries, or heavy manufacturing.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with metal grades, dimensions, weight calculations, and the specific handling needs of non-ferrous or nickel-based alloys.
- Software Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with ERP inventory modules and Microsoft Excel.
- Core Competencies: High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and clear communication to coordinate between procurement, quality control, and production teams.
